by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

Pascale Vandegeerde, one of the four members of the Communist Combatant Cells, the CCCs, died at the age of 64, La DH and Libre Belgique reported on Monday.

An extreme left-wing armed struggle organization, the CCCs came out of hiding in 1984 and committed several attacks in Belgium. They detonate bombs at the headquarters of companies that supply the American army. On October 15 and 17, satellite organizations of two government parties (PRL, which became MR and CVP, which became CD&V) were targeted. There is damage, but no injuries, recall the two daily newspapers.

On May 1, 1985, terrorists blew up a car in front of the headquarters of the Federation of Belgian Enterprises, killing two firefighters. In all, the CCCs claim responsibility for 21 bombings. On December 16, 1985, Pierre Carette, Bertrand Sassoye, Didier Chevolet and Pascale Vandegeerde were arrested.

Their arrest leads to the end of the attacks signed CCC. The four members were sentenced to life in 1988. Pascale Vandegeerde was the first to be released on parole in February 2000.
