The show plays out between fascination and anxiety, we feel torn between the aesthetics of the mobile sets and costumes and the sometimes violent gestures. Friday evening, on the stage of Equilibre, in Fribourg, the nearly twenty dancers of the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève fell into the void, fought with their bare hands, gauged themselves from the top of a staircase-sculpture which becomes a labyrinth of loss. Musically too, the contrasts are impressive: drums and percussive gongs pound oppressively, strike their tribal pulsations between lyrical movements of strings and piano. It seems that the airy flights of the bamboo flute soften them or reconcile them…
Ukiyo-e is the first creation of the choreographer
