The Kirchberg theater players have never had to rehearse for a play for so long. Because already in December 2019 the first rehearsals for the play “The true Jacob” started. The premiere was planned for April 2020. Three years later, the world is different and the “real Jakob” is still waiting for his big appearance. “We needed several attempts, but now we’re glad that the project is coming to the stage,” says Gerhard Wipplinger, chairman of the cultural community.
The piece had its world premiere in Berlin in the 1920s, so it is almost 100 years old. Now the comedy has been “brought home” to Austria, both geographically and linguistically. The protagonist of the play, the town councilor of a small rural town and chairman of an association that aims to raise morale, cannot really do justice to his role in distant Vienna. In a variety show he meets the charming dancer Yvette. Why this subsequently gets involved with the provincial moralizer and what far-reaching consequences this nocturnal adventure has for everyone involved is not to be revealed here.
The deeper meaning of this comedy by Franz Arnold and Ernst Bach is the eternal struggle between appearance and reality, to which we are constantly exposed in life. The new interpretation of the piece was developed and staged under the direction of Heinrich Pusch. The cultural community of Kirchberg received support from the well-known director and actor Joachim Rathke. When it comes to casting, a mix of established forces and young talents has been created for the Kirchberg theater ensemble.
“The real Jakob” deserves a very special premiere day: The first performance this year will take place on New Year’s Eve in the Gasthaus Koblmüller. Further dates, tickets and information will be available from December 5th at www.kultur-kirchberg.at. If you still need inspiration for Christmas: Theater tickets are always a nice gift.
