Elon Musk’s neurotechnology company Neuralink is preparing to experiment with a chip implanted in the human brain. The company plans to test it in humans by mid-2023. Neuralink has approached the US Food and Drug Administration for approval. The company has informed that the procedures of the FDA have been completed.
Neuralink is developing a device that can be implanted in the human brain to monitor and stimulate brain activity. The device consists of a microchip and wires that are threaded through the patient’s skull into the brain. Neuralink claims that this device can be connected to a computer to influence the brain and its movements. The company says that through this, it can provide vision to the visually impaired and mobility to those who are weak.
‘One in my brain’
Neuralink and CEO Elon Musk revealed that the brain chip was successfully tested in monkeys, pigs and mice. However, animal lovers came forward to show that the animals were being harmed in the name of the experiment. Experiments on the human brain have also been criticized from many angles. Many have pointed out the dangers of implanting the skull-piercing Neuralink chip.
However, Elon Musk and his team continued to experiment. In addition, Elon Musk announced that he will also be implanted with a brain chip. “Now if you want you can have a Neuralink device implanted in your brain and you won’t even know it… I’ll have one implanted in the demo to show you how.” – Musk said during Neuralink’s recruitment event. The company is preparing for human trials in the next six months.
