Fabian Wohlgemuth takes over the position of sports director at VfB Stuttgart with immediate effect. The 43-year-old has signed a contract with VfB until June 30, 2025.
Alexander Wehrle, CEO of VfB: “With the new appointment to the position of sports director, we want to set both a new impetus and a sign of continuity on our way. Fabian Wohlgemuth fits our profile perfectly. He recently proved in Paderborn that he can put together a valuable squad that plays attacking, passionate football with manageable means. He also brings a wealth of experience in the youth field. Fabian Wohlgemuth joins our well-rehearsed, competent team around Markus Rüdt and Thomas Krücken, which enjoys great trust throughout VfB and will be joined by Christian Gentner from January. In this constellation, the operational center of our club, sport, is excellently positioned.”
Fabian Wohlgemuth: “VfB has set sporting standards in German football history. It’s a vibrant club with a great fan culture, an exciting squad and incredible potential. At the same time, it is clear that the sporting and economic tasks at VfB will challenge our team spirit. I believe that things work particularly well when they are born and worked on in a team. The talks with Alexander Wehrle and other VfB managers have absolutely convinced me that we think and act the same way here. I’m full of anticipation to work together with everyone at VfB on a successful future.”
