Upon his arrival, William issued a personal statement regarding his visit to the United States and paid tribute to his late grandmother, the Queen isabel II: “Catherine and I are delighted to be back in the United States and are very grateful to Governor Baker and the First Lady of Massachusetts for their warm welcome to Boston,” he said.
“On this, our first visit abroad since my grandmother’s death, I would like to thank the people of Massachusetts and particularly those of Boston for the many tributes they paid to the late queen,” whom William said he “remembered your 1976 bicentennial visit with much love”.
“My grandmother was an optimist of life. And so am I,” said the Prince of Galas. “That is why last year we launched the Earthshot Prize with the ambition to create a truly global platform to inspire urgent hope and optimism as we seek to save the future of our planet.
A new rebel prince?
“To the people of Boston, thank you. I am so grateful for allowing us to host the second year of the Earthshot Prize in your great city. Catherine and I look forward to meeting many of you in the days to come.”
The couple last traveled to the United States in 2014 to visit New York City. They also toured Los Angeles in 2011, their first trip to the United States together following getting married in April of that year.
While the Earthshot Prize is the main reason for their visit, the couple also see it as an opportunity to “find the facts” regarding some of the causes and interests closest to them. “Some of the things we’re focusing on right now is supporting some of the most needy communities across the UK and we’ll continue to do that in Boston,” she said.
An irreparable loss:
