– A young man seriously injured following being electrocuted at Gossau station
An 18-year-old man was taken to hospital in critical condition following being electrocuted while riding on a carriage at Gossau station on Saturday morning.
An 18-year-old Swiss boy was electrocuted overnight from Friday to Saturday following climbing onto the roof of a train car at Gossau station (SG), the cantonal police of St. Gallen said in a statement. He was taken to hospital in critical condition.
The accident happened around 1:20 a.m. The young man was at the station with other people. For some unknown reason, he climbed onto the roof of a train car, where he was electrocuted by the railway power line and thrown to the ground, police said.

He caught fire and was seriously injured. Two other young people aged 18 and 19, who were present at the scene and who tried to put out the fire with their hands, also suffered burns. All three were taken to hospital.
The two young people who were more slightly injured were under the influence of alcohol, police said. An investigation has been opened to find out why the youngster climbed on the roof of the car and if he was also under the influence of alcohol.
