Thiruvananthapuram: The court held that the accused are guilty of the murder of a Latvian woman in Kovalam. The sister is happy with the verdict. As soon as they got to know the fate, they responded by thanking God.

In 2018, the accused were found guilty in the case of murdering a foreign woman who came to Kerala for treatment with her sister and throwing her body in the bush. Thiruvananthapuram Principal Sessions Court found accused Udayan and Umesh guilty. He will be sentenced on Monday.
The young woman, who had reached Kovalam from the treatment place, was approached by Udayan and Umesh, the accused who were pretending to be tourist guides and the nearby residents. The accused took the woman to the nearby bush in a boat on the pretext of going boating. The case is that following giving ganja beedi, he was tortured and killed by tying vines around his neck and then dumped the body in the bushes.
After the woman went missing on March 14, 2018, the sister lodged a complaint with the police, but she might not be found. It was seen in the CCTV footage that the woman had reached Kovalam, but it was not clear where she went.
Although many suspects were interrogated, no clues were found regarding the accused. However, following days of questioning, the accused say that the body of the young woman is in the mangrove forest. During the subsequent investigation, the decomposed body was found. The dead body was in a severed neck.
Sister and friend arrived and identified the body by looking at the clothes. DNA test was also done. The woman’s sister and friend, who are witnesses in the case, were examined through video conferencing. Allegations of trying to influence the witnesses in the case were also raised. However, only two witnesses defected in the case.
