at the Warriors or elsewhere?

At the Warriors since his arrival in the NBA a good decade ago, Draymond Green is currently the man of one franchise. But with his contract situation soon to become a real issue at Golden State, one wonders where the loudmouth of the Dubs will end his career…

“I want to play 4 or 5 more years. That would be enough for me. »

This is what Draymond Green told Marc J. Spears ofAndscape in a recent interview regarding his future in the Big League. Now 32 years old and showing himself to be quite on his legs at the start of the 2022-23 season (9 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists on average at 60% shooting, with almost 1 block and 1 interception), Draymond probably has a few more years ahead of him. It remains to be seen if he will make them on the only team he has known since joining the NBA.

This question is indeed likely to become more and more legitimate knowing that Green can potentially become a free agent in the summer of 2023. As a reminder, he has a player option at the end of the current season, which may allow him to test the market or extend for an additional season to 27.5 million dollars. Last July, The Athletic had indicated that Green was aiming for a maximum four-year contract extension with Golden State, but since then he was not the one who won the greenbacks. It’s Jordan Poole, who took a right from Draymond in the meantime but who above all collected a new deal of 128 million dollars over four seasons, then Andrew Wiggins with a new contract of 109 million over a similar period. Such an investment for a franchise that is crumbling under the luxury tax can logically reduce the chances of seeing Green extend to the Bay and thus make his entire career in Golden State.

“It’s something very rare [de faire toute sa carrière dans la même franchise, ndlr.]. It’s something incredible, so obviously I’m interested in it. If you have this opportunity, you savor it. But at the same time I understand that it’s a business. Ultimately, decisions will have to be made. I will have to make decisions, and they must be made when the time comes. »

– Draymond Green

A vital member of the Warriors dynasty alongside Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Steve Kerr and Andre Iguodala, Draymond doesn’t want to think too much regarding the future at the time of these lines. His priority? Help the Warriors really take off to find themselves in the best possible position to defend their championship title won last June.

It is only next summer, or even the summer following depending on what may happen this season, that he will really settle down to think regarding his future. Spending his entire career in the franchise that has truly marked the NBA over the past eight years would be a nice line on his CV, because we don’t make many players like that anymore. But something tells us that Dray wouldn’t mind a small move to Los Angeles to join his friend LeBronespecially with the media ambitions he has for his post-career…
