The Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix, which was scheduled to take place on April 16, 2023 in Shanghai, has been canceled due to China’s restrictive health policy.
The organizers of the world championship announced in a press release that they were giving up organizing the event because of the “current difficulties presented by the covid situation” in the country. F1 has not come since 2019 to China, where health restrictions are still drastic.
The absence of China, for the 4th consecutive season, leaves a gap between the Australian Grand Prix on April 2 and that in Azerbaijan on April 30. Alternative options are being studied to replace the event and maintain a calendar of 24 races .
If this were not to be the case, the 2023 season would still remain the busiest in history, the previous record being 22 events.
