bodies have been found bagged in the Aburrá Valley in 2022.

In the 334 days that elapsed from 2022 a day had not appeared with so many dead like last Wednesday, when violence took eight lives in Medellín. This was the day with the most murders, not only in the capital of Antioquia but also in the Aburrá Valley. A confrontation within the criminal group Los Pesebreros would be the cause of seven of the eight cases.

In 19 hours and 30 minutes these facts were presented, grouped into two double homicides, in one of them with bodies in sacks, and the other four simple cases that aroused alerts from the authorities, who before midnight struck to welcome him In December, with the traditional dawn, the communes of Robledo and San Javier were taken over to search for the members of this criminal organization that reminded the worst times of violence in the city.

At 1:00 in the morning, the authorities had the report of the first two victims inside the Puertas del Sol residential complex, in the Pajarito expansion zone, in San Cristóbal. from that moment started the bloody streakthe most intense of all 2022.

in a stolen taxi

One of the cases that most alerted the authorities was the discovery of two bodies wrapped in sacks Inside a taxi that was abandoned at Carrera 54 with Calle 25, in the Trinidad neighborhood, southwest of Medellín.

The victims of this incident were identified as Emiro Tuberquia, 39, and Edisson Fabio Sosa López, 43. The taxi was stolen in the Vallejuelos neighborhood, in the commune 7 (Robledo) hours before this discovery was made.

The Secretary of Security of Medellín, General (r) José Gerardo Acevedo, confirmed that these two bodies had been transferred from this commune and that seven of the eight homicides of the day had to do with retaliation between the gang Los Pesebreros.

Even, according to court reports, Edisson Fabio he had been sentenced in 2015 to eight years in prison for the crime of forced displacement when he was the leader of the criminal group La Huerta. He was known by the alias “Brayan” and was responsible for two families having to leave their homes once morest his will.

With five homicides in one morning, adding a fight with a knife in the township of San Cristóbal (see box) that would have no relation to this conflict, the authorities launched a series of operations throughout the commune. Overflights were also made with the Police helicopter

The operational deputy commander of the Metropolitan Police, Colonel Henry Bello, commented that following this, they they captured 41 people for different crimes, mainly in this area of Medellín. In addition, narcotic drugs and three firearms were seized.

While the authorities were in these operations, the criminals continued doing their thing and in the Santa Margarita neighborhood and in Robledales, both in commune 7 (Robledo), there were two other homicidesto close the violent day for that day.

Causes of the streak

A settling of accounts between various structures of the criminal group Los Pesebreros for the control of criminal income would be the cause of this streak, a situation that also affects some neighborhoods of commune 13 (San Javier)where this structure operates.

General (r) Acevedo indicated that “an internal dispute that this situation generates for us, that at the time, when it was warned, there were immediate actions, not only of presences, but of raids and captures.”

Some intelligence reports indicated that this is a consequence of homicide last September 11 Javier Ventura Marín Álvarez, alias “Tatu”, one of those who was once the right hand of Freyner Alfonso Ramírez García, alias “Carlos Pesebre”, the top leader of this organization, also known as the Robledo gang.

“The ‘Tatú’ thing was what overflowed the cup, but there are a series of facts that have been presented for a long time and that is adding up, we also have to analyze if there are former bosses who feel that they have been abandoned, that they are going to leave them or that they are going to do the same to them, that might be happening within this organization”, commented Luis Fernando Quijano, spokesman for the Corporation for Peace and Development (Corpades).

These streaks of homicide may not be continuous in this part of the city, because, according to experts of the armed conflict in the city, they seek to avoid police pressure in the midst of settling scores.

Carlos Arcila, a human rights defender from the northwest of Medellín, indicated that this situation has been going on for several months, but that it is a “sleeping lion that calms down and when he wakes up there are always homicides, threats and displaced persons”.

This was evident in yesterday’s session, when until the closing of this edition no murders had been recordedwhich leaves a constant in the violence of the city during this 2022, which mixes days of absolute calm stopped with streaks of homicides, although in the whole year the seven cases had not been exceeded until Wednesday.

among the most violent

Commune 7 (Robledo) is the third with the most murders this year with 29 casesexceeding nine homicides in 2021.

Commune 13 (San Javier), the other in which this criminal group has power, total 28 murders11 more than last year, according to the records of the Information System for Security and Coexistence (Sisc).

According to the Secretary of Security of Medellín, this increase It has been presenting, mainly, in the second semester of this year, since in June the number of homicides was equal at the end of the first semester at 18 cases per year, both in 2021 and in 2022.

“For us it might be an intention of some of consolidate a new power. It may be happening that there are people who feel that they should no longer belong to this structure and should become independent. That has been felt in various parts,” Quijano asserted.

Even the eight homicides in November they unbalanced the accounts that the Medellín Mayor’s Office had for November, when there was a decrease of one case compared to 2021, but with the streak there were seven more cases.

According to General (r) Acevedo, November ended with 36 homicides in Medellín, while last year it ended with 29.

However, there continues to be a global reduction in this crime, since this year there are 354 caseswhile last year there were 361.

“It is a good indicator, but it is still regrettable. We are working and we are going to capture the criminals,” said the secretary.

Some conflict experts would be mentioning that armed conflicts are brewing in other parts of the city, but that they have not yet awakened. “Note that, in addition to this situation in Robledo, two more urban wars might be brewing in the city. You have to take a serious look at Altavista and Belén,” Quijano said, although the authorities did not venture to confirm this version.

more rewards

To prevent these figures from continuing to rise, in addition to the strong operations that were carried out, following a security council led by Mayor Quintero, it was determined to increase the reward for information on these homicides of $40 million to $100 million.

Additionally, operations will continue in these communes, which They have left 499 detainees in Robledo (last year there were 333) and 673 in commune 13 (in 2021 there were 368), to prevent these retaliations from continuing to skyrocket the murder figures. In these communes, the operations that have allowed the seizure of firearms (27 in each commune) and narcotics (146,361 units in Robledo and 41,639 in San Javier) have also increased.

But beyond all this operation, this criminal structure in Robledo continues with its confrontations. The authorities continue their fight so that this does not continue to take lives in gusts as violent as this Wednesday.
