Luis Gustavo Parra Noriega, Commissioner of Infoem, highlighted the importance of access to public information as a right that contributes to fostering more democratic societies.

It is necessary for the entire population to exercise their right of access to public information, so that they can become more involved in decision-making and in government action, because only then can they obtain quality information that serves to prosecute more effective actions than meet public needs, commented Luis Gustavo Parra Noriega, Commissioner of the Institute for Transparency, Access to Public Information and Protection of Personal Data of the State of Mexico and Municipalities (Infoem).

When offering the welcome message to the Workshop “Tools for civil society that facilitate the Right of Access to Information”, the Commissioner of this guarantor body specified that informed civil society constitutes a fundamental piece to build more democratic and plural regimes. For this reason, he called on citizens to continue participating in forums like this one and reinforce their knowledge on the matter, to apply it for the benefit of their communities.

Within this framework, he commented that Infoem makes tools available to citizens so that they can exercise their constitutional rights and thus contribute to the construction of transparency policies, Open Government mechanisms and the fight once morest corruption.

Likewise, he stressed that in Mexico it is the responsibility of all public institutions to guarantee access to documents that contain information of interest to the population, which must be delivered when the citizens require it, therefore; In case of not doing so, the guarantor organizations have the job of making this right valid, promoting and disseminating its exercise.

For her part, María Paulina Pérez González, First Councilor of Naucalpan, stressed that it is very useful for citizens to know that, through the right of access to information, they can know in detail the use of public resources and encourage accountability. in each of the public administrations.

In her speech, Verónica García Miceli, representative of civil society, highlighted the importance of exercising this fundamental right, since it has been built through years of social struggle. It should be noted that this workshop was held at the facilities of the Municipal Palace of Naucalpan and was aimed at public servants of the municipality and members of various civil associations.
