A motorcyclist traveling along a road in Puerto Triunfo ended up crashing into a hippo in the vicinity of the Hacienda Nápoles Theme Park, during the night of last Saturday, November 26.
Jorge Eliécer Arboleda, commander of the Fire Department of that municipality of Magdalena Medio, Antioquia, narrated that the accident occurred around 7:00 p.m., when the driver he did not realize that the animal was on the track and hit it head-on in the middle of the darkness.
As was captured in several images taken by passers-by who witnessed the event, the force of the impact was such that the motorcycle ended up with its front wheel completely destroyed and the driver suffered a fracture on his right arm.
Despite the injuries from the impact, Arboleda said, the motorcyclist got up as best he might from the ground and ran to the side of the road, fearing that the animal would attack him.
“Around 7:35 we received the call reporting the accident and we arrived at the site, a few meters ahead of the theme park entrance. The young man says that from one moment to another he saw the head of a hippopotamus and crashed into it. Being beaten, because he fell to the ground, what he did was get up and run to the side, ”reconstructed the lifeguard.
After receiving first aid, the firefighter said that around 8:15 p.m. the motorcyclist was transferred to a care center in the department of Boyacá, where he was Underwent surgery last weekend and following discharged.
Although these types of accidents are not very common, Commander Arboleda took advantage of the event to make a call to drivers and advise them not to travel at high speed, in order to have time to maneuver in such situations.
“It is not very common for that to happen, it is the first time. You have to be careful on the road with excessive speed, since this prevents drivers from not having time to see what is in front”, he expressed.
