An eight-year-old boy, who came to the lakeside to celebrate the holiday with his family, was attacked by a crocodile. The incident took place in Limón, Costa Rica. Julio and his family had come to the shores of the Matina River to fish and have fun with their parents and relatives. Parents and 4 siblings were present at the scene. Around two in the followingnoon, Julio went down to the water with Mutt to wash his feet. As his father, mother and siblings watched, the giant crocodile swam out of the water and within seconds, took Julio in its mouth and disappeared under the water. Parents Don Julio Otero and Margini Fernandez Flores might only watch as the crocodile bit their son and disappeared into the water.
Julio’s father, Don Julio Otero, said that the mother had not yet recovered from the shock of seeing her son hide following being bitten by a crocodile. The crocodile that attacked and killed Julio was later shot dead by someone. When the villagers tore open the crocodile’s stomach and examined it, they found hair and pieces of bone, which might be Julio’s, the villagers said. There are many crocodile burrows and crocodiles in the river bed. Therefore, the authorities have warned those who enter the river to be careful.
