Cardinal Richard Bavobr passes away, Pope mourns!

Cardinal Richard Baubre’s evangelical witness was marked by generous service to the local church and those in need, the Pope said.

Cardinal Richard Kuuia Baawobr (Card. Richard Kuuia Baawobr), a native of Ghana, an African country, has done time. Pope Francis mourned his death.

In his message of condolence, the Pope recalled that Cardinal Richard Kuuya Bawobrin’s faithful evangelical witness to the Church in Ghana was marked by his exceptional and generous service to those most in need.

He died at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome on Sunday evening the 27th (27/11/22), aged only 63.

Cardinal Richard Bavobr, who died prematurely, was one of those who was made a cardinal by Pope Francis on August 27 (27/08/22).

After two months in the hospital, he was living in Rome at the home of the White Fathers, a monastic community of which he was a member. He was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance following feeling unwell on Sunday evening, but might not be saved.

Born on June 21, 1959 in Tom Tsenthaganjan, Ghana, Cardinal Richard joined the Apostolic Priests of Africa, or White Fathers, monastic order in 1981, was ordained to the priesthood on July 18, 1987 and ordained a bishop on May 7, 2019. He was serving as Bishop of Wwa Diocese in Ghana.

With the untimely death of Cardinal Richard Baubrin, the number of cardinals has dropped to 225. Of these, 126 have the right to consent to the conclave to elect the Pope. The remaining 99 are disenfranchised as they have completed the age limit of 80 years.
