You should start messaging each other in WhatsApp

WhatsApp has recently made it possible to send messages to oneself. Which can be very practical on a daily basis.

The beauty of WhatsApp, among other popular messaging apps, is that it allows you to send messages to anyone. It doesn’t matter if you want to contact friends, family or new acquaintances, or if these people have an iPhone or a smartphone Android. If they have WhatsApp, they can chat with you. However, there is one person you don’t trade with, and yet you should: yourself.

If you regularly use a platform like iMessage, this feature is not new. But on WhatsApp, it’s all new. In the past, the app did not offer a direct solution to send a message to your own number. A workaround was to create a group chat, removing other participants and keeping only you and your thoughts.

But why send messages? This can be useful to replace a note-taking app, for example. You can write down your ideas, interesting links, photos or videos that you would like to share. And because it’s WhatsApp and not some note-taking app, you can use this space to store content that you might want to share with other users. WhatsApp.

It’s also useful for sharing files across multiple devices. File sharing from Mac to Android or Windows to iPhone is not easy. Using a cross-platform app like WhatsApp can make it easier. For example, I use the feature all the time in Slack, so no doubt it will be useful for WhatsApp users.

To send messages to yourself in WhatsApp, you need version 22.23.74 on iOS or version 2.22.23.77 on Android, or later.

If the feature is present, you should see it when you start a new conversation. The same contact list appears, and you should see yourself at the very top. Tap on it and you will open a chat window with yourself and the title “Message to yourself”. From there, you can write whatever you want, include whatever media you want, only you will see that content. As with other chats, texts are end-to-end encrypted, so you have nothing to worry regarding on that end.

If you don’t see the feature, don’t panic, WhatsApp is still rolling it out to users. It should therefore arrive in the coming days / weeks. Patience.
