Rising prices have forced consumers in Germany to tighten their belts and change their consumption habits, according to a survey by market research firm Nielsen IQ.
The survey, the results of which were published today, Saturday, and included more than 10,000 people, showed that 52% of consumers in Germany now buy only the products they really need.
About 44% of those surveyed said they give up “leisure or luxury” products, 31% try to reduce restaurant visits and eat at home instead, and regarding 30% agreed, saying: “I shop less.”
“People also use many other austerity strategies, they compare prices more, pay more attention to special offers, and switch to cheaper products such as off-brand or store-bought,” said Lothar Steipelin, an expert at Nielsen IQ. Often lower prices.
Many consumers are also changing their consumption habits, for example by replacing butter with margarine and mineral water with tap water.
According to the survey, only regarding 10% of consumers are not worried at all regarding inflation, especially those with higher incomes.
