A pedestrian lost his life when he passed under the wheels of a heavy truck on Friday morning in the far west of Montérégie.
The collision occurred around 9:30 a.m., at the intersection of Route 325 and 4e Rang, in the municipality of Sainte-Justine-de-Newton, south of Rigaud.
The exact circumstances of the accident remained unknown at the beginning of the followingnoon, but everything suggests that the driver of the flatbed truck would not have seen the pedestrian who was at the intersection.
The latter would have passed under the wheels of the heavyweight, which was traveling at the time at very low speed.
The victim, a septuagenarian, was rushed to a hospital center, where he was unfortunately declared dead.
The trucker was to be met by investigators in the next few hours to give his version of the facts.
A portion of Route 325 has been completely closed to traffic to allow Sûreté du Québec accident scene reconstruction specialists to do their job.
