Half of Quebecers must change their financial priorities

Inflation has forced 45% of Quebecers to change their financial goals and 63% their spending habits over the past year, according to a survey conducted on behalf of the Institut québécois de planification financière (IQPF).

Buying a property, retiring, traveling or even buying a vehicle are among the projects that respondents have postponed or canceled due to the rising cost of living, according to the data released Wednesday.

As for those who have changed their consumption habits, a large proportion have adjusted their grocery shopping (77%) or limited dining out (75%). Leisure has also been affected, with 62% of respondents indicating that they have reduced the budget they devote to it.

The survey also reveals that people who have a financial plan (56%) are less likely to have changed their financial goals (38%) and their spending habits (60%).

More generally, the survey reveals that just over half of Quebecers (53%) say they have experienced a higher level of stress in the past year.

The probe was carried out with 1009 adults, between October 27 and November 2, 2022.
