A famous Iranian actress has been arrested following posting a video on social media refusing to wear a hijab and participating in anti-government protests.
AFP reported, citing Iran’s state news agency, that actor Hengame Gaziani was arrested for inciting and supporting recent protests.
On the 19th, Gaziani posted a video on her Instagram account in which she stared at the camera without wearing a hijab on the streets of Tehran, then turned around and tied her hair.
“This might be my last post,” he wrote, “whatever happens to me from now on, I will be with the Iranian people until I die.”
In a post posted last week, Gaziani also condemned the Iranian government as a ‘child killer’ for driving more than 50 children to death.
Eight people, including Gaziani, were arrested for posting “provocative” posts on social media, according to the website of the Iranian Ministry of Justice.
Famous actors such as Mitra Hajar and Baran Khosari were also arrested along with Yahya Golmohammadi, the head coach of the Iranian soccer team.
In Iran, anti-government protests broke out across the country in the wake of the mysterious death of Mahsa Amini, 22, who was arrested in September for not wearing a hijab properly.
The Iranian government has labeled anti-government protests as riots and has been hard-pressed.
