Meeting of pulmonologists

At the meeting ‘NeumoChiesi: new generations, new horizons’ health professionals have reviewed and analyzed the new evidence in the field of respiratory medicine.

Health professionals have reviewed and analyzed the new evidence in respiratory medicinehighlighting the advances that allow a better management of pathologies and, therefore, a better quality of life for patients.

This edition has had the participation of a list of experts, both national and international, who have formed a program designed by the Scientific Committee, made up of the Alvar Agustífrom the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona; Julio Ancocheafrom the Hospital Universitario de La Princesa in Madrid; Marc Miravitllesfrom the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona; Luis Perez de Llano, from the Lucus Agusti University Hospital in Lugo; Y vincent squarefrom the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona.

Throughout the congress, medical professionals have addressed the review of the new horizons of medicine in the field of respiratory pathologies in different presentations. In this sense, Agustí affirms that “the Continuing medical education is essential to be able to provide quality healthcare. This type of conference is allowed and facilitated, which is why it is essential in this context. Specifically, ‘NeumoChiesi’ is a medical meeting of proven quality, already fully established by its continuity throughout many previous editions”.

For his part, Pérez de Llano adds that from ‘NeumoChiesi’ “the possible changes that will occur in the medicine of the future as a consequence of technological advances and social transformations have been addressed, and to what extent a change in the scale of values ​​of the new generations of physicians might affect clinical care and research. Also, the role of small airway dysfunction in asthma control has been discussed”.

Supporting research on respiratory health

Ancochea shares the importance of promoting this type of meeting: “Year following year, ‘NeumoChiesi’ has established itself as a true classic of Spanish Pneumology and has reached its scientific, professional and social maturity. This meeting continues to look to the future and allows us to share ideas, projects, opinions, effort, scientific leadership and an innovative spirit. Science and feelings, affections and concepts”.

Regarding the treatment of COPD, what It affects nearly three million people in Spain and is already the fourth leading cause of death, pulmonologists have carried out an in-depth analysis of the current management of the pathology, looking for ways to improve this situation in the National Health System. In this sense, Miravitlles reflects that “these conferences are a great experience, because they allow little-known aspects of respiratory diseases to be brought to the forefront, it is also an opportunity to debate with top-level experts on the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases, but It also has the differential factor that it always includes some novel topic of interest, such as in this edition the vision of the new generations of pulmonologists on the development of the specialty and the challenges of future pulmonology care and research”.

Along the same lines, Plaza explains that “The main objective is to update the knowledge that this group of specialists, preferably, although not exclusively, in asthma and COPD. For many of them, it is one of the main sources of training in these fields”.
