Thiruvananthapuram: Apart from money, bribes in government departments demand anything from shirts and luxury items to sex. The testimony of the vigilance officers is that if some of the officers used to take bribes in the offices, now there has been a change. In five years, 127 people were caught in bribery cases. Officials also clarified that bribe takers are still continuing in various departments.
40 people this year, more in revenue
Vigilance caught 40 people while taking bribe this year. There are those who accepted bribes through electronic means. 14 of those arrested this year are revenue officials. Close behind are the local self-governing institutions where 13 people have been arrested. Ophthalmologist, Supplyco manager, police and education department officials are also in the arrested list.
Most of the bribes are for revenue certificates
Many people used to ask bribes for issuing revenue certificates. Vigilance officials point out that the officials asked for bribes to get the revenue services available online quickly. Some of those arrested this year demanded up to Rs 75,000. There are officers who have been arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs. They were mostly caught in bribery cases from offices, canteens, hotels, vehicles, agents’ offices and houses.
