The medical, administrative and nursing staff at the Doris Center for Mother and Child Health, with the participation of the head of the Baalbek Municipalities Union, Shafiq Qassem Shehadeh, and social activists, staged a protest once morest the theft of solar panels from the roof of the center’s building last Friday night.
Note that the center in the town of Durres, which was built with funding from the government of the Principality of Monaco, following the efforts made by the Governor of Baalbek-Hermel Bashir Khader and the Municipality of Durres to establish this vital project, has been managed since its opening in 2019 by the Amel International Foundation in cooperation with the “Fondacion Mirio”, and provides examinations and medical services. Almost free medicines for regarding 1,000 patients per month.
The doctors, management and staff of the center, with the participation of the head of the Baalbek Municipalities Union, Shafiq Shehadeh, staged a sit-in in front of the center to protest the theft.

Shehadeh expressed his regret and denunciation of “this disgraceful and irresponsible act that the center was subjected to, in terms of the theft of solar energy panels. It is appropriate that this health center receive all the embracing, support and care in appreciation of its pioneering work in providing health services to our people in Dors and its residents, and to everyone who comes to the center from people of the region.”
He stressed that “what the center was exposed to is a violation of the sanctity of a health humanitarian institution, and we call on all security forces to play their role and duty to uncover the perpetrators and impose the most severe penalties once morest them.”

In her turn, the director of the center, Dareen Al-Ahmar, said: “The center was subjected, on Thursday-Friday night, to the theft of 12 solar panels, and this attack on a humanitarian health center, one of the centers run by the Amel International Foundation in Lebanon, to provide health and medical services and relieve our people in light of this economic and living hardship that Our country, Lebanon, is going through it, and all health and social actors, and all groups and segments of society, denounced it, and we call on the security forces to play their role in exposing the perpetrators.
