“It’s really incivility”: in Ham-sur-Heure-Nalinnes, the theft of reflectors annoys its inhabitants

To prevent accidents caused by crossing game, the municipality of Ham-sur-Heure-Nalinnes in the province of Hainaut decided to install around sixty reflectors on the side of the roads in September. Problem, more than half were stolen.

This protects game in 70% of cases, but it also protects motorists and cyclists“explains Philippe Depasse, hunter in the region. In September, the municipality decided to install 60 reflectors for the safety of its roads. Problem, more than half of these reflectors were stolen in two months, which consequently causes more accidents between motorists and animals.

For the mayor of the town, Yves Binon, these thefts endanger the population. “By stealing this, they reduce the security that we wanted to put in place and I think that is unacceptable.“. The municipality paid the sum of €300 for the installation of these reflectors along the roads. A complaint was lodged with the police in the hope of finding the person or persons responsible for these thefts.
