Flyers 3 – Canadiens 3 (2nd period) | Owen Tippett tied the game with his 2nd goal of the game
The Flyers were quick to strike in this game. 39 seconds into the game, Travis Sanheim stepped up the attack and pounced on a loose puck to put John Tortorella’s men ahead.
Faced with his former head coach, we bet that Martin St-Louis would have liked a better start for his troops. Two minutes and 16 seconds later, Owen Tippett doubled the Flyers lead with a shot that Jake Allen would love to see once more. In his first game of the season alongside Joel Edmundson, Mike Matheson quickly found himself with a -2 record.
The Habs, however, closed the gap 73 seconds later. Christian Dvorak recovered Arber Xhekaj’s throw return to put the CH on the mark. Brendan Gallagher also picked up an assist on the goal.
Sean Monahan came close to equalizing late in the first period. On the power play, Monahan pushed Carter Hart’s puck and pad into the net. The goal was initially allowed on the ice, but the officials disallowed the goal following Tortorella challenged it.
The Canadian’s massive attack therefore continued and due to a penalty to Scott Laughton, the Canadian was able to take advantage of a numerical advantage of five once morest three. Cole Caufield didn’t ask for that much. He accepted the pass from Kirby Dach to beat Hart with a good one-timer from the left circle. Caufield became the second CH player to reach 10 goals this season following captain Nick Suzuki.
After a tough first half, Matheson found a way to redeem himself with his fans. He accepted Suzuki’s brilliant pass and beat Hart with a good wrist shot. His first goal in the blue-white-red uniform gave the Canadiens the lead for the first time in the game.
Pregame
The Montreal Canadiens are trying to get back to winning ways as they take on the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night.
For the occasion, the Habs welcome the entry of defender Michal Matheson. He has been sidelined since the start of the campaign with an abdominal injury.
If tonight’s game is special for the Pointe-Claire native, it is also special for Martin St-Louis, as he faces his former coach John Tortorella. The American, who is in his 21st season as head coach in the NHL, has had a huge impact on St. Louis’ career as a player, but as a human being too.
The Flyers come to Montreal with the intention of getting back to winning ways. Philadelphia has lost its last five meetings and has scored just one goal in three of its last four outings.
For his part, the Canadian has reformulated his defensive pairs due to the return of Matheson. The Habs No. 8 plays to the left of Joel Edmundsonwhile the third pair is composed ofArber Xhekaj et Johnathan Kovacevic. The duo Kaiden Guhle et David Savard remained intact. So that means Jordan Harris and Chris Wideman are left out.
Montreal is also trying to break its losing streak, following a 5-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils and another 6-4 at the hands of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
