Recall of cheese contaminated with harmful bacteria

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announces the recall of a cheese due to a bacterium dangerous to health.

People who have purchased Labneh, a soft cheese in olive oil from the Mounet Group brand, should not consume the product since it might “promote the proliferation of the Clostridium botulinum bacterium”.

“Foods contaminated with the toxin of the bacterium Clostridium botulinum do not necessarily have visible spoilage or a suspicious odor, but can still make you sick,” the federal agency said in a statement.

People who think they have been ill following consuming this product should contact a health care specialist.

“Symptoms in adults include: facial paralysis or loss of facial expression, unresponsive or fixed pupils, difficulty swallowing, droopy eyelids, blurred or double vision, difficulty speaking, slurred speech and a change in the sound of the voice or hoarseness. Symptoms of foodborne botulism in children can include difficulty swallowing, slurred speech, generalized weakness and paralysis. In severe cases, the disease can cause death,” the CFIA said.

The 250 g format produced on August 15, 2021 and expiring on August 15, 2023 is affected by this recall. The product was reportedly sold in Quebec, the CFIA also said.
