The Argentine national team refuses to live in luxury hotels
Lionel Messi, the Argentine national team striker and the rest of the team’s stars, decided to sacrifice a life of luxury by housing students in the World Cup.
The Tango team arrived in the Qatari capital, Doha, in the early hours of Thursday morning, and refused to go to the most luxurious hotels, as did the rest of the tournament teams.
The Argentines immediately went to the most modest accommodation in the student halls at Qatar University, as confirmed by the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, which indicated that the reason behind this was the desire of the team’s stars to have enough space to enjoy barbecues.
Therefore, a special barbecue area was built on the university grounds for Messi and his companions, to enjoy a variety of beef slices and sausages that they brought specially from their country, because they are considered traditional dishes in Argentina.
A source from the Argentine Football Association said, “We visited the campus several times and chose it because it not only has great facilities, but also an open space for asados, and this is very important because it is part of our culture and will make them feel at home while in Qatar.”
The campus of Qatar University is located on the outskirts of Doha, and it contains 90 rooms and many sports facilities, in addition to an Olympic-size swimming pool and a football field with a capacity of 10,000 people.
It is worth noting that Argentina is in Group C of the World Cup with Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland.
