Cameroon national team 2022.. The return of the youngest expelled to the World Cup

The Cameroonian national team is preparing to record its eighth participation in the World Cup, when it begins its journey a few days later in the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The World Cup competitions will be held in Qatar, from November 20 to December 18, with the participation of many strong and ancient teams.

There are many numbers and exciting events related to the World Cup since its inception in 1930 in Uruguay, and the story of the expulsion of Cameroonian Rigobert Song in the 1994 edition in the United States of America comes on top.

The 22nd edition witnesses the emergence of former Cameroonian defender Rigobert Song at the head of the technical leadership of his country’s national team, following a long history with the “Lions” at the continental and African levels.

The World Cup is associated with bad memories for Song, as he is the youngest player to be sent off during his debut with Cameroon at the age of 17, in the 1994 edition.

Song was occupying a main seat in his country’s squad and participated in Cameroon’s draw once morest Sweden in the first round, with two goals for the same, before he was sent off once morest Brazil in the second round at the 63rd minute.

The Cameroonian national team lost at the time, 0-3, and then suffered a crushing defeat once morest Russia in the last round, with a score of 1-6, in the absence of the expelled Song.

In the next version, Song was sent off once more, but in the third round during a 1-1 draw with Chile in 1998.

Song participated in the “Lions” draw at the start of the campaign once morest Austria, 1-1, before appearing in the 0-3 loss once morest Italy, to receive the second expulsion in his World Cup career once morest Chile in the last round in the 51st minute.

That expulsion gave Song a catastrophic number, which is that he became the first player to receive a red card in two consecutive editions of the World Cup.

Song’s presence with Cameroon as a coach in the next edition might make him the first person to be sent off as a player and coach in the World Cup, should he receive a new red card.
