The police want to pay a special tribute to Thomas Montjoie (29), the police officer stabbed to death in Schaerbeek last week, during his funeral scheduled for Friday. The intention is to form a guard of honor from the funeral home to the cemetery, a distance of approximately nine kilometers, federal police announced on Tuesday.
According to police officials, up to 3,000 members of the police might participate in this guard of honor. All integrated police personnel are invited to confirm their presence at the event before Wednesday followingnoon.
Members of the local and federal police across the country will also observe a minute of silence at 11:00 a.m. Friday, the start of the funeral ceremony. Flags will also be flown at half-mast on all police buildings, spokesman Jonathan Pfund said.
Thomas Montjoie died Thursday evening following a knife attack in Schaerbeek.
