Head in the toilet and force-feeding of children: a new nursery closed urgently in Flanders

The last news et VTM were able to consult the report drawn up by the Opgroeien inspection service (formerly Kind en Gezin). According to the document, unacceptable behaviors were identified.

The investigation was prompted by complaints from parents and professional members who resigned. Investigators visited the scene in March, April and June this year.

According to testimonies reported by the Dutch-language press, children were violently abused by a person in charge. The report states that children were allegedly held with their heads under cold water, or on their plates, because they kept crying. Others who put their hands in the bowls would have been pushed headfirst into them. A two-month-old child was also reportedly locked in the kitchen.

Ex-employees said the head of a child who refused to eat was placed between a manager’s knees to be force-fed with a spoon. Facts not entirely denied by a manager. “It is indeed true that sometimes we stand behind the children to help them eat. It is possible for them to put their head back. And sometimes their head ends up between their legs, but not between their knees “reacts the interested person.

At Het Laatste Nieuws, parents confide that the manager had his favorite children who were spared. “But suddenly, the others were heavily targeted. Children who cried too much stayed in bed all day“, relays the media.

The crèche, which accommodated 32 toddlers and preschoolers aged 0 to 3, was therefore closed with immediate effect. The parents must quickly find a solution.
