The World Cup adventure for the Swiss national team has begun. After landing in Doha on Monday evening, Murat Yakin’s team is already expected in Qatar’s capital.
Shortly following 3 p.m. on Monday, the Swiss national team will start their World Cup adventure with their departure from Zurich. Around six hours and a smooth flight later, Murat Yakin’s team landed in Qatar shortly before 11 p.m. local time. The luxury hotel Royal Méridien, where the Nati stars move into their rooms, is headed for directly.
The national team is already expected in the Qatari capital. Fans with Swiss jerseys and flags give Sommer and Co. a warm, if somewhat bizarre, welcome. “A nice welcome to Doha,” says the national team on Twitter regarding the welcome, which is also accompanied by music.
There is less enthusiasm for the waiting fans in the comments. «A nice welcome? Hopefully that’s a joke?” Asks a user and believes that the so-called fans are paid. Another agrees: “I hope they get paid well.”
In Qatar, not only the Swiss colors are clearly represented. Argentinian, Brazilian, Spanish or Portuguese supporters also seem to be there in large numbers just under a week before the tournament starts – even if a Twitter user expresses the suspicion: “I think the Qataris simply put on jerseys from other countries.”
