Stocks in the United States closed higher at the end of trading on Tuesday, as indices were propelled to the upside, and gains were recorded in the technology, consumer services and oil and natural gas sectors.
At the end of trading in New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 0.17%, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 index rose by 0.87% and the Nasdaq index climbed by 1.45%.
Among the leading stocks today in the Dow Jones Industrial Average was Wal-Mart Stores (NYSE:WMT), which rose by 6.54%, or 9.05 points, to close at 147.44. Meanwhile, Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) added 2.22% or 2.32 points to end at 106.71, while Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) was up 2.15% or 3.41 points to 162.07 in late trade.
As for the worst performer at the end of the day’s trading, shares of United Health Group Inc (NYSE:UNH) closed down by 2.09%, or 10.74 points, to trade at 503.01 at the close. Shares of Travelers Kos Inc (NYSE:TRV) declined 1.75% or 3.20 points to end at 179.50 and Verizon Communications Company (NYSE:VZ) closed down 1.59% or 0.61 points to 37.70.
On the other hand, the best performance in the Standard & Poor’s 500 index was recorded by a stock SVB Financial Gro (NASDAQ:SIVB), which rose by 9.18%, at 239.93, Ceridian HCM Holding Inc (NYSE:CDAY) also increased by 8.31% and closed at 72.69 levels, as well as Match Group Inc (NASDAQ:MTCH) rose by 6.66% and ended its trading at a price of 51.92.
Among the underperforming stocks today, we mention Capital One Financial (NYSE:COF), which fell by 7.18% and closed its session at a price of 103.56, per share. Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB), which lost 6.48% to 295.86, and Synchrony Financial (NYSE:SYF), which weakened by 4.85% and closed at 35.92 for today’s session on the stock exchange.
On the other hand, the best performance in the Nasdaq index was recorded by Tenax Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:TENX), which rose by 45.74% at a price of 0.14. Qurate Retail Inc Series B (NASDAQ:QRTEB) also continued its rise at 37.28%. It closed at 7.14 levels, as well as shares Exagen Inc (NASDAQ:XGN) rose by 42.38% and ended its trading at a price of 2.99.
Among the stocks that performed the worst today, we mention the share of Joel Global Limited (NASDAQ: JWEL), which fell by 56.65% and closed its session at a price of 0.69, Fast Radius Inc (NASDAQ:FSRD) share, which lost 47.79% at a price of 0.10, and share Kingstone Company (NASDAQ:KINS), which weakened by 45.03% and closed at 0.91 for today’s session on the stock exchange.
The number of gainers exceeded the number of shares that closed lower in trading on the New York Stock Exchange with 2346 compared to 776, while 104 remained unchanged. As for the Nasdaq stock exchange, 2499 of the stocks strengthened their position and 1319 retreated, while 197 of the stocks maintained their value.
Shares in Joel Global Limited (NASDAQ:JWEL) fell to an all-time low, losing 56.65%, or 0.91 points, at a price of 0.69. Kingstone Company (NASDAQ:KINS) stock fell to a record low, continuing its decline by 45.03%, or 0.75 points, at a price of 0.91.
500 Volatility Index, which measures the implied standard deviation of options on the S&P 500 index, traded up 3.41% and closed at 24.54.
Gold futures for December delivery rose 0.29%, or 5.20%, and closed at $1,782.10 an ounce. As for the trading of other commodities, WTI crude oil futures contracts for December delivery rose 1.19%, or 1.02 points, and reached a price of $86.89 per barrel. As for the January contract for Brent oil contracts, it recorded an increase of 0.71%, or 0.66 points, and closed at $93.80 per barrel.
The EUR/USD pair maintained its stability by 0.26%, and traded at 1.04 levels, while the USD/JPY pair continued its decline by 0.52%, reaching 139.15 levels.
Dollar index futures traded down by 0.16%, at 106.36.
