The study reached this alarming conclusion, following analyzing the medical records of more than 17.5 million people, between the ages of 18 and 65, to find that patients with IBD are twice as likely to suffer a heart attack.

The research team also noted that heart disease risk factors, such as smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure and increased cholesterol, were more common among patients with IBD.
