The Food and Drug Authority clarified what is meant by antibiotic-resistant bacteria and the reasons that lead to this resistance, coinciding with the World Antibiotic Week.
The authority pointed out that antibiotics are used to prevent and treat bacterial infections, but some types of bacteria develop on their own and show new strains that are resistant to antibiotics.
She added that it is one of the reasons for the resistance of bacteria to antibiotics. Frequent use of antibiotics, using them without a prescription, lack of attention to personal hygiene, and failure to complete the treatment period prescribed by the doctor.
