Blizzard will change the Diablo formula by introducing an open world for Diablo 4, which provides non-linearity. However, according to general manager Rod Fergusson, this does not mean that the game will be similar to Breath of the Wild.
In conversation with IGN Rod explained that the structure Diablo 4 not like Zelda. Despite the non-linearity, the game will have a story, because the developers wanted the game to have a beginning, a middle, and an end.
However, if there is a desire, then for some time the players will be able to ignore the story. This is one of the perks of having an open world where you can travel and fight before taking on the story.
Besides, in Diablo 4 there will be many side quests and activities that are not found during the linear passage of the story.
