Detainees interrogated in Guinea; India’s intervention only in statement | Kerala | Deshabhimani

Kochi
The Nigerian Navy has interrogated sailors detained in the African country of Equatorial Guinea. The ship was inspected. Their phone was seized by the Nigerian forces. Relatives said communication with those on board was cut off. In the name of investigation, the force had directed all the crew to resume their previous work on the ship for two days.

The lack of arrival from the Indian Embassy in Nigeria made the ship’s crew very worried. 16 Indians including three Malayalis and 10 from Sri Lanka, Poland and the Philippines are on board. Equatorial Guinea handed them over to Nigeria on Friday. Guinea seized the ship on August 9, accusing it of violating the maritime boundary.

India’s intervention is only in statement

While Sri Lanka, Poland and the Philippines are strongly intervening to free the crew, India’s intervention is only in name. Out of a total of 26 people, 10 people from Sri Lanka, Poland and the Philippines are on board. 16 people are Indians. The complaint of those on board and their relatives is that India is not making any significant diplomatic intervention. Only the statement of the Union Minister of State for External Affairs is taking place. Diplomatic interventions are used by other countries to free their citizens. If this works, the Indians on board are hoping that they too will get the benefits
