It was the first game of the World Series in his career following serving as a backup umpire in Game 1 of the World Series, for the 36-year-old Hoberg.
Early in the 2022 season, Hoberg was one blow call away from calling a “perfect game” when he went 122-for-123 in a game between the Phillies and Colorado Rockies. The only blemish on him was a strike he called a ball.
