Currently, the Canadiens’ top two scorers are Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki.
The first is 21 years old and the second is 23 years old.
And this reality where we see the CH being led by two young players enchants Michel Therrien.
During his usual segment at “JiC” on Monday, the former Habs coach was very talkative on the subject.
Watch the full segment in the main video.
“Offensively, Montreal compares to several teams that are in the playoffs. And the good news in there is that this performance is mainly the business of young people. Caufields and Suzukis, the kind of guys who produce this young, there aren’t many of them.
“The new administration has inherited quite a duo! We must not forget where these guys come from (Caufield and Suzuki).
“I think the Flyers somewhat regret their choice”
Therrien then went there with a rather revealing anecdote concerning the reputation of the little No. 22 throughout the NHL.
In 2019, the Flyers, who the coach worked for at the time, were talking 14th overall in the draft. When “Philly” speaking rights came, Caufield was still available.
But the Pennsylvania organization has set its sights on American defender Cam York.
As of today, the young guard has played 37 NHL games, collecting 10 points. He is currently playing in the American Hockey League.
Meanwhile, Caufield already has 58 points, including 34 goals, in 86 games.
While one carries his (NHL!) team at arm’s length, the other struggles to find his niche in the same circuit.
“I can tell you that shortly following the 2019 draft, Chuck Fletcher (general manager of the Flyers) went to watch a few games of the American development program team where Caufield and York played. When he got back, we looked at each other and said, “You better be good, York!”
“I think the Flyers regret their choice a bit,” concluded Therrien.
