In the rumors of the day, there is talk of an ultra-powerful 16-inch iPad Pro. But, who would need such a product?
With the new iPad 10 et iPad Pro M2, Apple has never had such a complex range to understand. It’s hard to know if we should go for a classic iPad, an Air or a Pro, or even a mini. At Samsung, it’s a little simpler, they also have a giant tablet. it’s regarding the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra14.6 inches diagonally for the screen, while Apple confines itself to its 12.9-inch iPad Pro M2.
If we are to believe the indiscretions relayed in the specialized press, Apple is working on a 16-inch iPad. The latter would be launched in the fourth quarter of 2023, presumably with an M2, M2 Pro or M2 Max chip. Finally, it would bear the name “Ultra”.
It is indicated that this 16-inch iPad Pro would be aimed at creators such as graphic artists and designers. This isn’t the first time a giant iPad has been mooted, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman previously said Apple was working on a 15-inch iPad. The name Ultra would be used for this famous product.
Moreover, according to another leaker, Apple would work on an iPad equipped with the M2 chip which would run under a light version of macOS. It would bear the code name Mendocino and will be released at the same time as macOS 14 in 2023. We can therefore imagine that this macOS software would equip this famous giant tablet from Apple. Of course, this is speculation here.
An iPad for content creators
Some people might want a giant iPad. Graphic designers and architects might need the extra space to work, working with an Apple Pencil, photographers, videographers and music editors using iPads might find some benefit. And, of course, a giant iPad would provide a good experience for watching videos and even gaming.
The challenge, however, is that as iPads get bigger, they also get heavier. Echoing what then-Apple CEO Steve Jobs said when the original iPad was introduced, you’ll be able to use it in your hands, but not for long. Your handles will soon hurt. This therefore implies that this iPad should be designed for use on desks and tables, which in itself suggests that you will be using external accessories, such as a stylus, mouse, keyboard or even a gamepad. We might imagine a Studio Display monitor touchscreen with iPadOS, like the latest Samsung PC screens equipped with Tizen OS.
That means this giant iPad might end up straddling a new market segment. We wonder regarding its positioning, between the iPad Pro M2, the MacBook Air M2 and MacBook Pros. You can easily bet on a prize of 1,500 euros, and even more.
