Herschel Walker is a Republican Senate candidate in Georgia and an anti-abortion activist. Two women now accuse him of fathering illegitimate children with them in the past, who were aborted with his help.
Shortly before the US congressional elections, a Republican candidate from the US state of Georgia continues to get into trouble: Herschel Walker had positioned himself in the election campaign as a categorical opponent of abortion. But a few weeks ago, he was distressed by reports that he paid for an abortion for a woman he had become pregnant with. The woman told The Washington Post and The Daily Beast that Walker gave her money for an abortion in 2009. She wants proof of that too. Walker denies this.
Now another woman has made similar allegations: According to her statements, the former football player is said to have urged her to have an abortion. She became pregnant by Walker in 1993. Now she voiced her allegations in a Zoom conference with reporters organized by her lawyer Gloria Allred.
She doesn’t believe Walker has the moral fitness to be senator, so she spoke up and presented evidence. Walker dismissed the woman’s statements during an election campaign as “nonsense” and “lies”. He will not deal with that any further.
Both women wanted to remain anonymous to protect themselves and their families.
Trump supports Walker
During a campaign appearance in northern Georgia, Walker hinted that the Democrats might be behind the latest allegation. They would “say and do anything to stay in power,” he said. Walker’s supporters include ex-President Donald Trump.
Walker wants to challenge Democrat Raphael Warnock for the Georgia Senate seat. Polls see both in a close race that might impact future Senate majorities in Washington.
Voting already started in Georgia
About two years ago, President Joe Biden’s Democrats had seized the two Senate seats in Georgia, thus securing control of the House of Representatives once more following years. The political camps each have 50 seats in the Senate, but in the event of a tie, Vice President Kamala Harris can vote in favor of the Democrats.
In Georgia, residents have been able to vote since Monday last week, while the actual election date is November 8th. Around a million votes have now been cast, as State Secretary Brad Raffensperger, who is responsible for elections, announced yesterday.
