Berlin ∙ Germany has taken steps to legalize the possession and use of controlled amounts of cannabis. The document introduced by Health Minister Karl Lauterbach would decriminalize the possession, distribution or use of 20-30 grams of cannabis. Shops will be licensed for controlled sale. It has not been specified since when this will be allowed.

Germany will become the second country in the European Union to legalize the use of cannabis. Malta is the first country.

Many European countries, including Germany, allow the use of cannabis for treatment.
