Bacterial contamination of tap water is confirmed in Hodeige: 60 poisoned

The toll is getting heavier in the village of Hodeige. The mayor of the town of Remicourt now speaks of around sixty addicts “at least”, and a child had to be hospitalized. The origin of contamination of mains water remains at this time still undetermined.

A first test nevertheless provides initial indications: technicians carried out, on site, chlorination measurements. To prevent the proliferation of bacteria in the pipes, the SWDE systematically injects a dose of chlorine. If, at the end of the network, the chlorine level remains within the standards, this means that the disinfection remains effective. However, according to the spectrometry which was carried out this Wednesday in Hodeige, there is no more chlorine, which constitutes a “very bad sign”. It is at the very least an indication that a bacterium is proliferating or has proliferated. Which ? This is still the unknown: it takes several hours to complete the analyses.

The notice of non-drinkability of water in Hodeige is therefore confirmed. As a reminder, the Remicourt water tower, which supplies the entire territory, is still, at this stage, out of the question.
