No one expected such a step from her.
Everyone is used to the fact that Sherlock Holmes in most of his film incarnations is a man. But there are also adaptations where a woman plays the great detective. And for the first time this happened in Soviet cinema.
In 1986, the film My Dearly Beloved Detective was released on domestic screens, in which the role of a detective named Shirley Holmes was played by actress Ekaterina Vasilyeva, and her assistant Jane Watson was embodied on the screen by Galina Simonova.
The “feminized” version of the adventures of the most famous detective in history, created by screenwriters Arkady Khait and Grigory Gorin, did not win the same audience love as the series with Livanov and Solomin. Nevertheless, she still took her prominent place in the screen “Sherlockian”.
On the account of Ekaterina Vasilyeva, following the role of Shirley Holmes, there were dozens of different movie characters – from queens to pensioners. But then fate took a sharp turn, and the cinema ceased to be the main business of her life, giving way to the love for God that Vasilyeva always experienced inside herself.
In 2021, the People’s Artist of Russia took monastic vows and became a nun Vasilisa. For the actress, this was a completely conscious step: before that, she had already spent several years in the monastery as a novice. Yes, and the closest person to Vasilyeva, son Dmitry Roshchin, serves as the rector of the Moscow church.
