On November 1, the Sphinx International Airport will receive the first flight following the completion of the development work and the increase in its capacity to one million two hundred thousand passengers annually. Air Cairo, a company affiliated with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, organizes the first flight from Sharm El-Sheikh Airport to Sphinx Airport.

The company is scheduled to organize 12 domestic flights per week between “Sphinx” and Sharm El Sheikh, Luxor and Aswan airports, provided that flights will be gradually increased according to the increase in travel traffic, and international flights will start operating in the near next phase.

Lieutenant-General Mohamed Abbas, Minister of Civil Aviation, said that the start of flights from Sphinx Airport comes within the framework of the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s plan to activate air and tourism traffic, as it is one of the most important airports donated by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to the civil aviation sector due to its proximity to the pyramids area and the Grand Egyptian Museum, which contributes to Linking tourist cities and archaeological areas and activating one-day tourism in line with the strategic objectives of Egypt’s Vision 2030 and achieving the Egyptian state’s plan for economic development.

The work of the airport expansion project included increasing the total area of ​​the airport to become 24 thousand square meters instead of 4,500 square meters, while increasing the capacity to 900 passengers / hour, instead of 300 passengers / hour. The development also included providing the airport with a new power station with a capacity of 7.5 mega, in addition to Adding 6 elevators, 8 escalators, and 4 passenger loading bridges serving 4 planes, providing it with 20 passport control counters, 26 check-in counters, and 3 baggage belts, with an increase in the number of X-Ray baggage screening devices to 13, in addition to an increase The capacity of the helipad to accommodate 8 aircraft of different models, and a control room for surveillance cameras.
