Breast cancer has replaced lung cancer as the most common type of tumor in Austria’s women. At the international congress in Salzburg, experts exchange views on the latest therapies.
In Austria, around 40,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year. The most common malignant tumor disease in women is breast cancer: According to the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK), around 5,500 women receive this diagnosis every year. That is almost 30 percent of all new cases of cancer in women. Breast cancer is also the type of tumor responsible for the majority of cancer-related deaths in women, usually alongside lung cancer.
