Super League: FC Zurich and YB demand the elimination of the playoffs – rts.ch

The new championship mode planned for 2023/2024 does not arouse blissful enthusiasm. FC Zurich and YB have thus asked the Swiss Football League committee to give up the playoffs for the title and the European places.

The club does not question the increase to 12 clubs in the Super League, nor the separation into 2 groups (clubs ranked 1-6 and 7-12) following a first game of the championship.

According to the FCZ, the playoffs are sportingly unfair. The Zurich club also recalls that the reactions among supporters have been very negative regarding the introduction of playsoffs. Banners have thus flowered in many Swiss stands this season to protest once morest this mode of championship.

YB also opposed

FC Zurich immediately received support from Young Boys. In a statement, the Super League leader also comes out in favor of the “Scottish model” (two separate groups, ranks 1-6 and 7-12, following a preliminary phase over three rounds).

We remain more than ever convinced that it would be wrong to introduce play-offs, above all for reasons of sporting fairness and in view of the issue of security.explained YB.
