The Chinese manufacturer of wind turbines Goldwind has unveiled the nacelle of its first turbine with a power of 13.6 megawatts (MW) and whose rotor has a diameter of 252 meters.
From one end of the blade to the other, there would be enough to hold the Montparnasse tower and a 10-storey building. China is definitely chaining records in terms ofoffshore wind turbines. After revealing longest wind turbine blade in the world (123 m), the country reveals the turbine with the largest rotor on the planet.
Manufactured by Goldwind, the rotor claims a diameter of 252 m, capable of sweeping an area of approximately 50,000 m², the equivalent of 7 football pitches. It is designed to equip an offshore wind turbine with direct drive and permanent magnets with a 13.6MW power. The huge rotor was also presented in operation, at the heart of the Fujian offshore wind farm.

For comparison, the rotors of offshore wind turbines built by its European competitors Vestas and Siemens Gamesa as well as Chinese Mingyang measure up to 236 meters, which still allows them to cover an area of 43,500 m². However, the Goldwind wind turbine is a little less powerful than its rivals, at 14, 15 and 16 MW respectively.
