The German Association of Urologists said that the urge to urinate is a medical problem if its rate exceeds 6 times during the day and twice at night.
The association explained that the frequent desire to urinate may be due to several reasons, some of which are simple and others are dangerous, noting that the simple reasons are drinking fluids in large quantities, excessive coffee and taking diuretic drugs, in addition to stress and psychological burdens.
The frequent urge to urinate may indicate weak pelvic floor muscles, and it may also herald serious diseases such as urinary tract infections such as cystitis, neurogenic bladder (overactive bladder), urinary stones, prostate diseases such as enlargement and inflammation, and kidney problems such as kidney failure and diabetes.
In any case, a doctor should be consulted to determine the real reason behind the frequent urge to urinate, especially if it is accompanied by other symptoms such as burning, pain during urination, decreased urine quantity, change in the color of urine, or blood in the urine.
