With a hood and armed: they arrest two carabineros for theft of a van in Arauco | bbcl_investigates

Two active officers of police from Chile They were arrested for stealing a truck from a man who was on his way to work at the MAPA project in the province of Arauco, Bío Bío region.

The incident occurred around 08:00 this Wednesday in the commune of Arauco.

According to information accessed by the BioBioChile Research Unitthe victim met two men this morning at a bus stop, located on Gabriela Mistral street in front of the El Pinar population of the aforementioned commune.

Both, the victim said, were wearing worker’s clothes, so the affected person offered to transfer them to the MAPA project. In the middle of the journey, however, the occupants intimidated him with a weapon, to steal his vehicle and abandon the victim at the north access of the Arauco pulp mill.

According to police information, the unknown individuals fled in the direction of Curanilahue.

The fall by GPS

Once the facts were known, and thanks to the van’s GPS system, a Carabineros patrol managed to find its whereregardings in the Piedra Lisa sector.

There, the uniformed men identified a group of strangers who tried to flee in another vehicle, a Suzuki Grand Vitara. Within minutes they were caught by the police.

After the arrest it was found that two involved belonged to the ranks of the institutionOne was a second corporal, identified as Diony Cuevas Rebolledo from the Fourth Police Station of Curanilahue (who was on medical leave).

The second of those involved also corresponds to a second corporal from the same unit, named Christian Alejandro Aburto Ojeda. At the time of the arrest, he was hooded.

Researches

As announced by the Public Ministry, it is the chief prosecutor of Arauco, José Ortiz, who was in charge of the proceedings to clarify the theft of the truck on Route 160.

“A person, who is a Carabineros official, is arrested for his responsibility in the crime of robbery with intimidation once morest the victim. Another person is undergoing an identity check and the presumed link between her and the crime described above is being investigated. This individual is also a uniformed police officer,” they explained from the Bío Bío Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

“His procedural situation will be defined with the results of the investigations being carried out by the Internal Affairs Section of Carabineros de Chile (SAICAR)”, they added.

Government concern

Consulted by Radio Bío Bío, the presidential delegate in the province of Arauco, Humberto Toro, expressed his concern regarding the events that took place this morning.

“It is worrying. We are talking regarding people from an institution that is precisely dealing with the issue of crime in the country and in particular in the province of Arauco”, he asserted.

“Obviously we are concerned, but we also understand that the institution is quite severe on these issues and these facts will allow it to deepen and generate tougher monitoring within the Carabineros regarding these situations,” he added.

Along these lines, he said he had “confidence” in Carabineros. “Not because there are some of them involved (I will be suspicious). We assume it as particular, personal acts, but not as something of the institution”
