Sohag Arts organizes a symposium on the dimensions of the population problem in the governorate and its impact on reproductive health

Dr. Mustafa Abdel-Khaleq, President of Sohag University, witnessed the activities of the scientific symposium, which was organized by the Department of Geography and Geographical Information Systems at the Faculty of Arts, under the title “Dimensions of the Population Problem in Sohag Governorate and its Impact on Reproductive Health”, in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Tawfiq, Acting Dean of the College, Dr. Othman Abdel Karim, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Hala Muhammad Hafez, assistant professor in the department, Dr. Wafaa Abu Sedira, rapporteur of the Women and Population Branch in the governorate, Sheikh Ibrahim Omar at the Ministry of Awqaf, and the hemisphere, Mrs. Tharwat, pastor of Mary Gerges Church in Al-Kawamil, and a group of faculty members The faculty, staff and students, in the seminar hall at the faculty headquarters in the new university campus.

During his speech, Dr. Mustafa Abdel-Khaleq stressed the interest of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, the President of the Republic, and his awareness repeatedly in many speeches and events of the danger of population growth, this crisis that stands as an obstacle to the mighty work efforts within the state and devours the fruits of development, adding that the population increase at the present time constitutes A major challenge for countries regardless of their systems, whether developed or developing, and one of the important issues that remain a constant and continuous debate on the government’s table, given the pressure it causes on the labor market and the absorptive capacity of economic activities, which makes it a major challenge for the Egyptian state.

Abdel-Khaleq explained that the culture of procreation that was formed over long periods in the Egyptian society is still linked to the bond and the bond, in addition to the customs and traditions that support early marriage, the preference for having males, and the failure to use family planning methods, in addition to not being satisfied with two children, which leads to difficulty Child care, low family living standard, child labor, frequent family disputes, weak family control as a result of parental preoccupation, and increased psychological and nervous pressure.

Dr. Mohamed Tawfiq added that the problem of rapid population increase in Egyptian society is one of the main obstacles to development efforts in many economic, health, educational and service fields, in addition to being a stumbling block in the way of the success of policies aimed at combating unemployment and poverty, in addition to threatening social stability and limiting per capita share. of natural resources and national income.

Tawfik stressed that the problem of overpopulation in Egypt needs to stand at it for a long time, and try to treat it so that its negative impact does not extend to society as a whole, because this will lead to imbalances in the societal system in the state, and may cause the emergence and spread of crime due to the spread of unemployment, adding that it leads to Increasing public allocations for spending on basic services, such as education, health, transportation, housing, social protection and security, at the expense of capital spending on development projects in the main production sectors, such as agriculture and transformational industry.

It is noteworthy that the symposium discussed a number of topics, including reproductive health, family planning principles, the geographical dimensions of the population problem in Sohag Governorate, as well as religious awareness of the dangers of overpopulation on the individual, family and society.
